CORDURA®: Tough Gear, Built to Endure
CORDURA® isn’t just a brand of high tenacity fabric; it makes up the kind of gear that earns its place on the front lines. Trusted from military rucks to daily haulers, the CORDURA® brand and its 55-year heritage of durability is the gold standard for those who expect their gear to show up, day in and day out. When conditions get gritty, Cordura keeps its cool. It’s built to last, for folks who don’t settle for halfway or “good enough.”
At Red Oxx, we don’t mess around with compromises. That’s why every bag we build starts with 1000 Denier CORDURA® Brand Nylon or 1050 Denier Ballistic Nylon CORDURA®. These aren’t just big numbers; they’re the backbone of the toughest bags you can put your hands on.
People like to say Red Oxx bags are “bulletproof.” We’ll let you be the judge. But even the most rugged gear deserves a little TLC. Just like a classic truck, a well-kept bag is a bag you’ll hand down.
How to Care for Your Red Oxx Gear
Keeping your Red Oxx bag looking sharp doesn’t take much, thanks to CORDURA®’s hard-as-nails durability. Here’s how to help your bag outlast your toughest days:
Storage
- Cool, dry, and out of the sun’s reach, that’s the spot.
- Use a dust bag or pillowcase for extra protection.
- Avoid plastic bags; moisture needs to escape, not hang around.
- Store upright when you can and remove accessories to prevent indentations or scratches.
- Storage bins work well for high humidity states like Florida, Alaska, Mississippi and Hawaii.
If you live right by the ocean throwing in a large silica gel packet helps. (sold here)
Cleaning
- Mix up some mild soap (like dish soap or Dr. Bronner’s) with cool or lukewarm water.
- Grab a soft bristle brush and go after dirt and stains.
- For a deep clean, Nikwax Gear SolarWash® adds extra UV protection and revives water repellency.
Dr. Bronner’s Liquid Soap
Nikwax Gear SolarWash® - Hand washing is best. It’s gentle and keeps your bag running strong.
- make sure to rinse thoroughly.

Stain Removal
- For everyday stains, a paste of baking soda and water works well. Rubbing alcohol can tackle the stubborn stuff.
- Using a toothbrush in slow, circular motions can help work out ground-in substances.
- Blot out surface stains with a damp cloth instead of scrubbing; the key is to coax the stain out, not drive it deeper.
Drying
- Always let your bag air dry. Skip the heat and sunlight, both weaken fabric and can dull the color.
- Hang bags upside down so any water works its way out.
Odor Removal
- Sprinkle baking soda inside and leave overnight to absorb odors.
- Air it out, flipped inside out, in a breezy spot.
- Wipe with white vinegar and water solution for a fresh start.
Longevity Tips
- Give your bag regular cleanings to keep it ahead of grime.
- No harsh chemicals or bleach, it’s tough on gear and can damage the fabric and water-resistant coating.
- Use a protection spray like NIKWAX SolarProof® for extra armor against water, stains, and ultraviolet rays. Applied regularly, it’ll help your bag look as fresh as the day it left the shop.
Follow these steps, and your Red Oxx bag will see more adventures than most people’s shoes. At Red Oxx, we build ‘em to last. The rest is up to you.
