iPad Tablet bag on the fly?
And yet big enough to hold the belongings you need.
A SAFE PLACE TO CARRY YOUR FAVORITE ELECTRONICS.
Get organized with our mini messenger bag. The Chica (also called the Chico) tablet bag features two interior pockets, one zips, and the other's a flat slip pocket with a padded exterior panel to protect your electronics such as:
- Apple iPad tablet
- Amazon Kindle, Kindle Fire HDX and Kindle Paperwhite
- Most electronic tablet PCs such as ASUS, Acer, HP and Lenovo ThinkPad
- Most eBook readers
- Nexus tablets
- Windows Surface
- Samsung Galaxy tablets
- Google Android tablets
- Barnes & Noble Nook HD eReader
- Mini laptop notebooks
RIGHT AMOUNT OF POCKETS.
In addition to the main compartment, which can hold your files, a couple textbooks, and paper notebooks or magazines, there's an exterior pocket under the flap with a single snap closure.
The zippered pocket on the outside flap is big enough to hold your keys, makeup, computer power and charging supplies, cell phone, iPhone, Smartphone, iPod, Phablet, etc. There are also nylon webbing loops on the sides to clip our smart phone case, or hang emergency pepper spray, clip knife, etc. Folds flat for easy packing and storage.
BUILT LIKE A TANK.
Our customers like to define our gear as "built like a tank". While obviously you're not going to be toting around bags that weigh 50 tons and have three inches of armor plate, still the comparison is valid. For a bag, they are built tough. Starting with the most durable soft textile material available, 1000 weight Cordura nylon, we use super strong UV resistant thread that is double stitched into every seam.
Places where two separate pieces of fabric are stitched together are then bound, that is, a long piece of one inch wide nylon webbing is folded over the edges of the two pieces and they are stitched together, this creates a strong seam, or binding, that prevents the pieces from unraveling on the inside of the bag, or gives it a clean finished look if on the outside of the bag.
In addition, each exposed fabric edge, such as on the Chica's main large compartment flap, is also bound using a thicker binding material. Inside edges typically receive a thinner nylon webbing, whereas outside corner edges that are exposed to wear will have a thicker nylon binding. All of our binding material is vertically woven to prevent fraying, peeling or splitting that you may commonly see in less expensive bags that brag of "binding" their edges.
Each stress point, such as where the handle of the Chica attaches to the bag, is double box stitched - which is where we get the "double xx" in our name, Red Oxx; a stitching practice we adapted from our time as parachute riggers.
The reason Red Oxx uses the largest zipper we can afford, the #10 YKK VISLON® zipper, is that they are easily repairable, even in the field; they will hold their place, that is, they "lock"; they are difficult to penetrate, thereby increasing the security of your belongings; they function smoothly in inclement weather and they can be yanked from a variety of angles without losing teeth or becoming separated.
The rugged Chica mini messenger tablet bag is sure to keep your tablet or iPad safe and handy and keep you organized while on the move.

Chica Trivia: A secretary we know wanted an everyday purse. Obviously a Chica is also Spanish slang for a beautiful teenage girl.

We're using this bag for several years now, and here's what I can say about it:
- Looks like new.
- Holds everything a family needs for a stroll through a foreign city.
- Doubles up as camera bag for a DSLR at times.
- The inner zip is great to protect a wallet and other important stuff. I had to confront a guy in a Torino tram about his hand trying to get into my Chica, but anyway he stood no chance of getting anything important quietly.
- For us, it's one bag to rule them all.

I have just returned from an extended vacation in Europe and I used the Chica as purse/day bag instead of a backpack. Comfortable to carry as a cross over (the body) while walking and exploring while keeping your hands free. Holds quite a bit and is easily the most convenient day bag I have ever had. Am very very happy with my purchase.

The Chica has become my everyday crossbody purse which I use on my daily commute to and from work (which is 100 miles round trip). It allows me to be hands free to carry my lunch bag, laptop, umbrella, etc. I love this bag and highly recommend it for everyday use. I have carried it for about six months now and it still looks brand new. Besides being functional, the black looks very professional on the streets of Nashville. Be sure to read my complete story on the Chica in the Adventure Journals--which includes a list of things that mine contains.

Bought this for the wife to use as a purse when traveling. When she received it she immediately switched out her purse and has carried it ever since. The bag is very well made and tough as nails. I'm sure I'll be ordering a backpack very soon.

WIFE LOVED IT---SUPER FAST DELIVERY
By Nancy, Trimble, MO, January 24, 2014
Love this bag! Big enough for all my stuff and the compartments make everything easy to find. Very comfortable strap and color goes with everything. When this wears out I will buy another one.

Excellent product for 2 daughters that travel frequently.

Size, weight and comfort are just what I was seeking. It's thin enough to be sleek, but could expand, if needed. I like the separate pockets inside, and the zippered one keeps the stylus and ear buds from falling out.

Perfect size for around town or air travel. Can hold more than you think but not awkard if you are carrying just the basics
By Anonymous, Illinois, November 21, 2013
Worked great for the planes, trains and buses in Europe. I dont have a need for it day to day but will use it when I travel for sure.

The thing to remember about so-called "man-purses" is that they perform one function: to carry things too big for clothes pockets. And in today's laptop-toting age, there's no shame for a man to have one.
The trick is to get one with a sense of man-style. And that's what the Chica has: it's the evolution of that canvas bag Harrison Ford carried in the Indiana Jones movies. It's the same size, in terms of height and width, but because it's a bit wider it can carry more. An iPad or tablet will fit quite easily, and letter-sized documents will go in with little fuss.
I will echo the complaints of others in that the strap could be replaced by the rubberized Claw that RedOxx uses in its other products.

I was undecided between the Chica and the Gator, but when I saw them both, I decided on the Chica. So glad I did! This bag has become my everyday purse and a travel staple. I have a 4th-gen iPad with a ClamCase Pro (hard-shell keyboard case) -- fits perfectly in the Chica. My cell phone goes in the zipper pocket on the flap (not ideal, but I can live with it until RedOxx comes up with a better idea). Checkbook and sunglasses go in the zipper pocket inside the main pocket. The Chica goes everywhere with me, and I have no problem with the style or appearance. The strap is a little rough -- I have to be careful when wearing knits or thinner fabrics -- but overall, the Chica is wonderful. Thank you, RedOxx!

The chica performed with excellence. It held everything from little to large quantities and is very sturdy. I will definitely be using instead of a purse on all my trips.

I bought this bag for my wife and a girlfriend as an everyday purse after they looked at it online. I already own the railroad duffel bag and the tri-fold shaving kit bags and knew all about the quality of your products. Needless to say, they are both incredibly happy with it. It holds all the useless crap that women have to carry in their purses and still has room left over to hold stuff they are handed by our kids.
After talking to both of them, they would absolutely buy another one (or several) in various colors and would recommend these to other women. According to them, the only thing that would make this bag better would be a checkbook wallet that matches the color of the bags. In short, they love these bags.

The Chica was a last minute purchase before a trip to Guatemala. I had been traveling with the Air Boss and was impressed with the design and construction. When the Chica arrived I thought it was too big. I put it back in the box disappointed with my impulsive purchase. Long story short...the bag went to Guate with me and is now my favorite travel bag.
It was designed to perfection. Just enough pockets to be useful but not too many that you lose track of where you put things. I wore the shoulder strap across my body so the bag was always secure against my body and my hands were free.
I had everything I needed for the day including rain jacket and bottled water. The bag that I initially thought looked too big never felt cumbersome. My search for the perfect day bag is over.
Great bag for women or men
By Elizabeth, Berkeley, CA, October 18, 2012
I've used this bag every day since I received it. I am extremely pleased. I was looking for a durable, everyday purse with a cross-the-chest strap that could be shortened to a shoulder strap. I wanted a durable material but didn't want the weight of leather. The Chica is exactly as described.
I like the way the strap is attached to the bag; it doesn't twist because there are no d-rings. The front zipper pocket is perfect for my cell phone, keys, and little odds and ends that I want quick access to. The pocket with the snap is good for snacks, earphones, lists. The main compartment holds my camera, wallet, scarf, 18 oz water bottle, etc. I'm sure I'll use the slot pocket towards the back at some point for separating things.

I've had my Chica about 3 months. I had to revise my expectations of what and how to pack the Chica. One reason I bought the Chica, is that I will eventually get a tablet computer. Right now my Nook stands in for the tablet.
For folks that lamented the lack of a key clip, may I suggest the handy wire ring that comes with the dog tag? I strung the ring around the metal clip holding the strap. Et Voila! My keys do not drop into the bag. I bought pencil bags to segregate my gear, much nicer than digging through a bag. I take my Chica everywhere and it still does not show wear.
There are a ton of pockets and ways to arrange the Chica to meet your needs. Experiement!
Good, but not without flaws
By Anonymous, Texas, September 16, 2012
I bought this bag a few months ago. Now that I've had it awhile and have used it quite a bit, I finally feel comfortable writing a real review.
I love Red Oxx products. They really hold up to abuse and look good doing it. They are even "Autism Tough," which isn't easy to find.
I bought this bag for me, to be used in travel--specifically to Walt Disney World. I needed something that would be easy to carry, use and would hold a lot. I always need essentials for my ASD son, my toddler and still wind up with things for/from my other 2 boys and husband. I didn't want to look or feel like a pack mule. I also wanted something that was OK for water rides and sudden downpours. In this, The Chica fit the bill perfectly.
I've been also using it for when I was working day camp during the summer and for many day trips/festivals. I am mostly happy with it.
I am able to toss in my phone, my iPad, rain ponchos, small books, water bottles, snacks, sunscreen, digital camera, pocket camcorder, baby wipes, noise cancelling headphones, wallet and many other miscellaneous items with ease--depending where I am at or what I need (almost all those things at once when at Disney).
Where The Chica failed: I found the strap did slide a bit. I am on the look out for a way to slip something around it for a bit more comfort, but really, it's not something I noticed too terribly. I do wish the straps were removable. I kept losing my iphone. There is an interior pocket, but my phone kept getting lost. I'd like a small smartphone pocket that is easy to reach. This is not a deal breaker though. I really wish there was a side pocket on each side for a water bottle. I ended up attaching a carabiner that has a water bottle clip, but it moves around and hits me which is uncomfortable. This is close to a deal breaker, as I find this a big need and inconvenience. The BIG problem though, is the rubbing. For the most part, it lays as any crossbody bad lies and is quite comfortable. However, what I have noticed is that the super-tough material rubs against my clothes. When I returned from Disney, I realized I had ruined several shirts. In that 5 day trip, I probably ruined $300 worth of clothes. My use is now limited to when I am wearing clothes I don't care about (day camp "uniform" t-shirts), if I will have a stroller that I can toss it into or any other time that I will not have it on my person for 14 hours a day.
Update - Awesome Addition
By GaylM, Canada, September 2, 2012
Thought I'd add to my original posting as I've now done 2 train trips with my Chica & it is as good as I'd hoped. I find that I use these reviews a lot to make decisions so I wanted to let people know some details of this bag.
I fit my iPad, with a protective sleeve, in the back slot of the main compartment with a bit of a squeeze but nothing that would endanger the iPad - it is more that my sleeve is a little bulky. On its own, the iPad slides easily into the slot.
In the rest of the main compartment, I was able to put all the cords & extras that I travel with (chargers, headphones, extra [large] battery for apple gear, small purse, scarf & large metal water bottle). There's a small zippered section in the front of the main section which is where I transferred my passport to for safety when I was through security/customs.
Under the front flap (which ingeniously snaps at the bottom to the rest of the bag) is another section that has a middle snap & is perfect for easy access to snack bars, kleenex, chapstick, etc...
The front flap has a zipper for quick access to your tickets & id. I found it the perfect place for my iPhone, as well.
This bag is extremely well thought out. It's more stylish than the gator bag & that's what I wanted. If I was going on a trip where I would be roughing it more then the gator bag would be my preference.
Personally, I don't want water bottle holders at the end of this bag. It would be neat to have some sort of an add-on for water bottles that would attach, look like part of the bag, but that you could put on or off as you need - I would be all over that. I sort of like the idea of a back slot but I also know, from experience, that items tend to disappear more easily & so I much prefer the front zippered section on the front flap.
I can't think of much more that I would want for this bag. It's about as perfect as can be, for my needs. I do like the idea of an add-on water bottle holder though....hmmmm.....

This is the perfect bag. It is extremely well made, fits my "look", and is the perfect size for all my purse items plus a book. I use it everyday and love it!
