AN OUTFITTER'S SAFARI DUFFEL BAG.
This large duffel can hold everything you need it to, and then some! Outdoorsmen love this bag for week long hunts in the cold mountains here in Montana. It's big enough to accommodate boots, pants, coats and everything else you'd need to keep warm for a week while out in the field.
Handy touches like the end pocket zippers that zip halfway down for easy digging and the flip top lid that gets out of your way while packing and unpacking. And every zipper is paired with our fair trade Monkey Fist Zip Knots making unzipping a pocket so easy a blind monkey could do it.
SEVEN REASONS TO OWN A RED OXX PR6 DUFFEL BAG
1. PAIR IT WITH A ROLLABOUT.
Packed to the brim with innovative features like the unique pass-through panel docking sleeve located on the back of the duffel. Got wheeled luggage? Pair it up with the PR6 by unzipping the two zippers on this pocket and then slip the bag by its pocket flap over the telescoping handle.
2. NO SLIP STRAP.
Still, the Safari Beanos PR6 is designed to be shouldered, so the rubber padding on the Claw Shoulder Strap is molded directly to the webbing. This strap will never slip off your shoulder and the welded nickel plated hardware is the absolute best you can buy. Never will the hardware rust, break or bend.
3. BUILT LIKE A TANK.
Our customers like to define our gear as "built like a tank". While obviously you're not going to be toting around duffel bags that weigh 50 tons and have three inches of armor plate, still the comparison is valid. For a duffel bag, the Safari Beanos are built tough. Starting with one of the most durable textile materials available, 1000 weight CORDURA® nylon, we use super strong UV resistant thread that is double stitched into every seam. Rugged, reliable and tough.
4. BOUND AND BAGGED.
Places where two separate pieces of fabric are stitched together are then bound, that is, we take a long piece of one inch wide nylon webbing and fold it over the edges of the two pieces and stitch them together, this creates a strong seam, or binding, that prevents the pieces from unraveling on the inside of the bag, or gives it a clean finished look if on the outside of the bag. Inside edges typically receive a thinner nylon webbing, whereas outside corner edges that are exposed to wear will have a thicker nylon binding. All of our binding material is vertically woven to prevent fraying, peeling or splitting that you may commonly see in competitors bags that brag of "binding" their edges.
5. RIGGER CHECK.
Each stress point, such as where the handles attach to the bag, is double box stitched - which is where we get the "double XX" in our name, Red OXX; a stitching practice we adapted from our service as parachute riggers.
6. MY, WHAT BIG ZIPPERS YOU HAVE!
The reason Red Oxx uses the largest zipper we can find, the #10 YKK VISLON® zipper, is that they are easily repairable, even in the field; they will hold their place, that is, they "lock"; they are difficult to penetrate, thereby increasing the security of your belongings; they function smoothly in inclement weather and they can be yanked from a variety of angles without losing teeth or becoming separated.
7. PUTTING THE HARD IN HARDWARE.
Red Oxx has occasionally been accused of "overdoing" our hardware. But once you've had a cheap piece of plastic hardware break in the middle of a busy intersection, airport or other inconvenient locale dumping your precious belongings all over the ground, the trail or a busy airport for all the world to see (or steal) having a heavy-duty nickel-plated or stainless steel D ring or attachment swivel that weighs just a little more, or might make a little noise, is a travel companion's confidence builder and peace of mind maker. After all, you want to enjoy your journey as best you can. Why worry about having your bag break you down?
IN NEED OF A BIGGER CHECKED DUFFEL?
The PR6 duffel is the original LARGE in the Beano's Safari Series travel bags and can hold up to 70 lbs of gear. If you need more, try our Sherpa Jr. or Big Oxx!

Every great bag needs cool accessories.
"Beanos" Trivia: Our friend "Beano" needed a gear bag that could carry his clothes and still be carry-on legal. Named after his grandfather, a bean farmer in the midwest, whom he looked like as a kid. Formerly the Super Beano, the PR6 is now available in several sizes and is in it's 4th stage of design revision.

So far So Good. High Quality Safari-Beanos PR6 Bag. Nothing last Forever, but this is the next best thing. I wish they could do a Digi-Camo Color.
By Ty, GA , August 27, 2015
The quality of the bag is exceeded only by the exceptional customer service. I called in with questions concerning size, durability, range of use, etc… and found out this information plus. I have already made a couple of extended trips out West and found that the PR6 will carry way more items than I could actually wear. I appreciate quality gear that can take a little punishment and still preform. This bag passes the test with flying (and cool) colors. I could not be more satisfied.

This bag is amazing. It got itself kicked, dragged, sat on and hauled around the airport on its first use. It was a bed, a pillow, a chair, and it weathered it all nobly. I'm considering buying the PR5 as well and never needing other travel luggage again.
By Henry Mayer, Decatur, Indiana, February 12, 2015
I bought this bag pack my hunting gear for a three week trip to Mississippi. I take many items as the weather is constantly changing from warm to very cold, often with rain. It was very helpful in allowing me to organize the articles of clothing & other equipment needed for varying conditions. I like the many pockets and solid construction. Wonderful purchase, worth the extra cost as I will likely never have to replace it.

I have been working on the railroad for over 4 years now and I spend 75% of my time away from home. I have to bring what I need for my job - rulebook, lantern, radio, switchkeys, jacket, safety gear, as well as what I need for a night away. Toiletry bag, laptop, clothes, food, sandals. It adds up quick and this bag easily holds it all and sometimes more.
In fact we like to play a joke now and then and put a knuckle pin into a coworkers grip, adds about 10 lbs or so. One time a guy put a whole knuckle in my grip, an extra 80 lbs, my bag didn't even flinch. There was this time though, a guy glued my bag to the locomotive, before I realized what was going on, I had pulled it off the track, I got in a bit of trouble for that.....but the bag held up just fine. Thanks for a great product......

I work for Burlington Northern Santa Fe railroad and ordered this bag as a replacement for a free duffel I received from work. This is the second Red Oxx I've purchased (the first one was a couple years ago and smaller). I use both of them regularly and continue to be impressed with their durability and quality. As an 8 year Veteran I understand the need for rugged, durable and dependable gear. Red Oxx has delivered on all areas. I constantly recommend them to my coworkers and friends.

I use this bag on a daily basis. I purchased it for work as I wanted a little more space than the railway bag. This bag has so far exceeded my expectations. I have pulled it through the doors on locomotives numerous times with the latches catching it and holding it back and not a single sign of wear on the bag. It is actually bigger than I really need but I love it and wouldn't think twice about buying another one

Recently started my railroading career went through 2 grips now I have an OXX and it looks like its going to retire with me.
By Michael B. Moore, Huntsville, AL, January 30, 2014
I was looking for a Cordura nylon bag (with no wheels or heavy frame) big enough to easily handle 5 day's worth of clothes and toiletries. This Red Oxx bag is all of that and more. I wanted heavy duty straps, snaps, fittings and zippers--my last bag (Eddie Bauer 1200 Denier) was a good one, but after 20 years, the plastic strap fittings broke. I don't see that happening with the thick metal parts, and heavy duty zippers, on this one.
For those who are concerned about the relatively thin material--you can't get any tougher material than Cordura nylon--I have other articles made of it, and most of it looks as good now as it did when I bought it nearly 30 years ago. The only piece that wore out was one that I mistakenly kept in the heat and light of the attic where it got baked. This bag is worth every penny we paid for it. Great Christmas gift, too.

Thought the nylon would be thicker, and thought it would hold its form. A soft bag with good design, hardware and stitch. Not sure its worth the price, for it appears to be made of the same nylon as much cheaper bags. All though the replacement warranty may make up for the additional cost. I will see.

The PR6 is my second bag, next to the PR5. The larger size bumps the space out a bit more for month long trips and additional bulky gear carried in the colder seasons.
In addition to the great construction and large opening features for loading, I've noticed the Red Oxx products shipped to me are absolutely clean and free of dust, threads or debris. This indicates pride in craftsmanship and what most certainly is a well kept work area where the bags are produced. Both of which lead to a superior product.

This is one badazz bag! I bought it for a pack in elk hunting trip in CO and it was the perfect bag for the job. The pockets on each end allow you to organize the small stuff and zippers, hardware, straps, etc. are literally bomb proof. I was reluctant to spend the money at first but I'm glad I did. This bag will last for generations.

Great bag. Tough and huge. And when I called with a question, I didn't have to talk to a machine. The phone was answered by an intelligent American. That's pretty rare. Very pleased with everything.
By Bryan, Amarillo,Tx, May 3, 2013
I've been railroading for 15 years and this is by far the toughest and roomiest grip I have owned. It gets loaded up and down on the locomotive in all kinds of weather and conditions. Holding up very well. I will be getting other bags and backpacks soon for traveling. Great quality and durability.
By R. S., Boise Idaho, March 28, 2013
Bought this bag for a Auto Survival kit, very nice everything fit perfectly into the bag. Arrived on time and in good shape.
By Eddie, Kansas, March 4, 2013
I've been a railroader for over 30 years and been through several grips in that time. The PR6 I bought outlasted all the others by at least double.I've had leather bags, 3Tuff bags, and a couple of off brands I can't remember. The PR6 went through 2 years on a local that worked 6 days a week and another 6 years in ID service 4 days a week.Should've bought the Red Oxx to start with.I finally wore out the bottom and the no BS warranty replaced my bag.I have no doubt this bag will make it my final 6 years to retirement.

At first I thought the bag wouldn't be big enough, and then I packed.
It fit everything I needed and more! Its a great bag!!
By Ravi Moorthy, Chennai, India, February 21, 2013
Bought a PR6 bag around 2 years ago. It has traveled with me to all parts of the world. This is the sturdiest bag that I have ever owned. It can truly hold 30-40kgs of stuff and not tear apart.

Great bag. We have two 6s and two 5.5s. Together, these four bags easily hold what a family of four needs for a weeklong trip. I was afraid they would be too heavy for air travel, but we haven't had a problem yet, even when these bags are STUFFED. On a recent trip, our airline managed to destroy one bag, Red Oxx quickly replaced it under their No Bull warranty. So, I ordered another size 6. By the end of this week, we will own 5 Beanos and will be ready to travel anywhere.
Extremely durable & an eye catcher

Frequently Asked Questions
What are the differences in size of the Beanos bags?
The PR6, a step up from the PR5-5, was not designed for legal carry-on travel. The PR6 is the largest of the dual end pocket duffel bag series. For more information view the video "Comparing the Safari Beanos" in the videos tab at left.
Is the PR6 carry on legal?
The PR6 was not designed to be carry-on legal.
How many days of travel will fit in the PR6?
The PR6 was designed to hold 10 days worth of clothes. Some proficient packers could stuff it for two weeks. Obviously, it really depends on what you pack and how you pack it.
Is the PR6 padded on the bottom?
Our Sun Chaser and Flying Boxcar are padded on the bottom. The Safari Beanos series is not padded.
Why are there two zippers on the back pocket?
This is a special "pass through" pocket that allows you to mount the bag over the handle of a wheeled bag.
Is there a way to securely lock my bag?
Sure, you can use any TSA approved bag lock
or try our Cable Lock
for a simple, semi-secure solution. Watch this video where CEO Jim Markel demonstrates how you can use the cable that comes with the product Dog Tag
price tag to secure your bag
. Keep in mind, any determined thief can still cut open a soft sided bag with a sharp knife.
What are the D-Rings for at the end of the zippers?
The D-rings allows you to lock your zippers closed. Again, one can still cut open the bag with a knife.
Are there any interior pockets?
The Safari Beanos series has exterior flat side and raised end pockets only.
What's the best way to pack the PR6?
We developed a great line of cool Packing Cubes
that are designed to work with Red Oxx bags. We recommend the bundle wrap method developed by Doug Dyment of Onebag.com fame. Which brings us to the next question.
Will packing cubes fit in the PR6?
We recommend our Lil Roy
and Nomad Shave Kit
as packing cubes. You can color-code your belongings and use the handles to hang them in your room for easy access.
Is this the Railroad Grip?
The Railroad Grip is a different bag. It is sized differently to accommodate the lamp, rule book, radio and is built using a heavy-duty ballistic nylon. While the PR6 is a strong bag and is warranted for life, the Grip is the bag of choice for railroaders.
How does the PR6 compare to the Sky Train or Air Boss?
The PR6 is a duffel style bag with a main center compartment and two raised end compartments, whereas the Air Boss is a carry-on bag with three main central compartments. The Sky Train is a double main compartment carry-on bag that has retractable backpack straps. Only the Air Boss
and Sky Train
are carry-on legal.
Will my shoes fit in the end pockets?
Depends on the shoe! A child's shoes would fit as would most women's average foot size, perhaps (7-8). Low cut hiking boots might fit and most men's shoes would also fit (7-12).
Are there any interior pockets?
The PR6 features a main compartment, flat side pockets and dual end pockets. It does not have interior pockets.
Will the PR6 meet checked luggage standards?
Yes, the PR-6 is designed for checked travel.
My zipper broke. The teeth have separated. Do I send it in for warranty repair?
No need for warranty repair, easily fix it yourself. Check out this video where CEO Jim Markel shows how easy it is to do it yourself.
Can you ship USPS?
Yes, Red Oxx will ship USPS upon request. Simply state, "Please ship USPS" in the cart comments during checkout and we will adjust your billing accordingly.
