If you only need to get this outfitters expedition bag from your car to the tent, you can use the handles, bag end grab loops or the No Slip Claw Shoulder Strap; leaving the retractable back pack straps out of sight. Basically, like the Sherpa Jr. you can carry the Big Oxx 6 different ways.
1. Carry it by the top handle.
2. Carry it by both end handles.
3. Carry it with one end handle.
4. Carry it on your back with the retractable backpack straps.
5. Carry it with The Claw No-Slip Shoulder Strap.
6. Let a real sherpa carry it for you.
The Big Oxx Bag comes with dual exterior compression straps and 2 exterior flat zippered side pockets, securing all of your hunting, camping, or safari overland gear and valuables safely in place and making it easy to get to what you need. The carry handles and compression straps fully wrap around the bag, effectively doubling up the no rip carry strength.
Double box stitched seams protect all stress points. Overbuilt 360 degree swivel "claws" for your strap will never rust or rip free. Armed with nickel plated hardware more suited to a Mack Truck than an outfitter's bag! A rectangular shape means you can stuff this Expedition bag to its hilt. Like its little brother, the Sherpa Jr., the Big Oxx Bag also works well with light puddle jumper airplane travel.

I trusted two of these bags to hold everything I owned on a move across the globe (New York to Singapore), and they both easily rose to the challenge. I'm almost disappointed that they're practically pristine after the journey.
I might not have been a traditional adventurer -- heck, I carried a desktop computer and a monitor in one of these (both items arrived in perfect shape), but these Big Oxx's sure make me feel like one. I'll be trusting these bags to carry my things all over Asia, and I have no doubt these bags will still be in good shape next year.

This bag is HUGE! I think I could've probably ordered the Sherpa Jr. Expedition and been just fine. Used it for the first time in July for a trip to Africa. Held everything I wanted to pack (which is always far too much) plus gifts we were taking to our friends. I ordered the Amethyst bag and it was super easy to find my bag on the luggage carousel. Since it's a duffle, with no wheels, I think I'll be learning to pack lighter in the future. Love the bag! Thank you.

We bought this to corral all the odds and ends that we need when traveling with our nearly one-year-old daughter. Instead of several small bags of cloth diapers, bath stuff, clothes, toys, travel crib, etc., we can now stow all of those things in one large bag. My husband loves that it makes packing the car much simpler. When we're ready to travel by plane with daughter in tow, I'm sure this bag will be indispensable. And I'm glad to know that the sturdy construction of this bag will serve us for many years (and kids) to come!

I got this duffle and then sent it in for the next smaller size which I took to China, Tibet (over 12,000 feet for three weeks) Nepal and then Bangkok. It's awesome, and I realize I could have used one size smaller (to resist the temptation to bring too much.) One thing might be better. The straps that go around it and clip on top, tend to get tangled and turned into a real cluster f**k. It would be nice if they went through canvas keepers, perhaps anchored just below the side zippers, so that when you're closing up, you didn't have to fish around under the heavy loaded bag to secure them. Other than that, like my other Red Oxx gear, they never wear out and there are none better. Thanks.

At first I thought that spending the extra money to get the big bag with backpack straps was unnecessary vs. just getting a duffel. I have to say that after using it for a few trips, it is perfect. The Big Oxx has proven to be more than capable of a cargo hauler than I could have imagined. Packed completely full, it is still accepted as a airline checked bag and is a good companion piece to the Air Boss. The shoulder strap is capable of supporting the bulk and weight, and makes it look classy enough for Business Class checkin once the backpack straps are put back into their pocket. A solid and very useful bag.
Big Enough To Hide a Body

This bag went all the way to Panama with me. Went through customs without injury or interior inspection. This is one big bag! My family of three could not fill it up. We packed it until it weighed exactly 50 lbs so as not to have to pay extra for an overweight bag. I'm sure that this bag could hold 80+ pounds with no problem. Craftsmanship is excellent. My only suggestion is to make sure you have someone who can carry this huge bag like an NFL linebacker.

This is the second Red Oxx bag I have purchased. The first was the Sky Train.The Big Oxx bag is very well made and takes maximum advantage of the checked baggage size allowed by Airlines.If you must check a bag, this one allows you to travel with or return with a lot of gear.My only worry is that the straps and handles will become caught while on airport conveyor belts, etc.NOTE:Route the straps through the handles to prevent this. Then use the Tri Glide 3 bar adjuster to secure the ends.Red Oxx

Clothes for a 340 lb man take lots of room, especially when you're going to the mountains for a week in cold weather. Only the Big Oxx will hold a weeks worth of 5XLT shirts and coat, 44/36 pants, rainwear, and two pairs of size 16 hunting boots (plus thermal underwear, tri-fold shave kit, folded gun runner, and two hats). Think this bag is only for big boys and cold weather, think again. The compression straps on the side make it manageable for a weekend on the river in the summer, even if you pack for the wife and two kids. The hidden shoulder straps are the coolest part of the bag. They come in handy when your packed full and the nearest parking spot is in the farthest lot from the airport terminal and you're watching the bus leave as you're clipping the DRings. What a bag.
Wildland Fire Torture Test

The Expedition Series bag that Red Oxx made for me has been on the back of a wildland fire engine on 50-60 large fires. It holds all of my firefighting gear plus my tent, sleeping bags, etc... The bag has been "painted" by air drops, sometimes tied on the trucks by its straps and D-rings, has been completely covered with foam, fell off a truck at 30 mile an hour, been on the back of the truck baking in the sun for weeks on end, tree limbs have attacked it, and has been covered with hot embers on more than one occasion. Through it all the bag has preformed beautifully, the bag is not as brightly colored as it was new but it still works perfectly throughout the many trials it has been put through. The bags are constructed to far exceed the limits that everyone will usually use them; with the quality of craftsmanship I would trust these bags to outlive any other bag on the market today.

The Big Oxx features only one large main compartment and two large exterior flat pockets.
How many days of travel will fit in the Big Oxx?
This is an expedition sized bag. Going somewhere for awhile? This is your bag. Properly packed one could live out of a Big Oxx. for a several weeks.
What's the average weight when full?
Depends what you pack in it. A few weeks of hunting gear for example, could weigh up to a hundred pounds.
Does it come with a waist belt?
Since the Big Oxx is a frameless soft sided bag, a waist belt would not work.
Why does the Big Oxx have a storm flap over the zippers and your other bags don't?
The Big Oxx was designed with rugged outdoor use in mind. A storm flap helps make the bag more water resistant.
How do the compression straps work?
They encompass the bag's exterior helping to keep your gear in place through, you guessed it, compression.
What's the difference between the Big Oxx, the PR6 and the Sherpa?
The Big Oxx is our largest capacity outfitter's bag equipped with one main compartment as opposed to the PR6 which has a large center compartment and two end compartments.
Can the Big Oxx be locked?
Yes, any TSA approved lock will work. Or you can use one of our inexpensive cable locks. Keep in mind, any soft sided bag can be cut open with a sharp knife.
Will a sleeping bag fit inside the Big Oxx?
Absolutely, it will easily fit a large Butler Sleeping Bag.
Are there any interior pockets?
The Big Oxx has only one large main compartment and two exterior flat pockets.
