In June 2014, I placed my first Red Oxx order, which consisted of an Air Boss and two Nomad Shaving Kits. I have been so impressed with the superb quality and design of these tenacious bags that I have expanded my Red Oxx collection.
In March 2015, I purchased, among several other Red Oxx items, a Pin Mount Key Clip. The clip is configured exactly as shown on the Red Oxx website, with the base mount (nut) and the plastic loop hook facing in the same direction. However, when installed in this configuration, the plastic loop hook faces towards the fabric you have pierced with the pin mount. This counterintuitive orientation makes it somewhat awkward (but not impossible) to attach things to the plastic loop hook.
On the other hand, in the video demo for this product, Jim Markel demonstrates how to mount the Pin Mount Key Clip. Notice that his key clip is configured differently from that shown in the photo of the product. Jim’s key clip has the base mount (nut) and the plastic loop hook facing in opposite directions. As the video demo shows, when Jim finishes mounting his key clip, the plastic loop hook faces away from the fabric. This intuitive orientation allows things to be attached to the plastic loop hook quickly and easily.
If you have a small phillips screwdriver, it is easy to remove the two screws holding the Pin Mount Key Clip together and flip the plastic loop hook so that it is oriented similarly to the key clip shown in the video demo.
In my opinion, the Pin Mount Key Clip should ship configured as shown in the video demo and not as shown in the product photo. However, this is a minor quibble. Whether configured in one direction or in the other, this is a useful and clever (if somewhat pricey) travel accessory, and I recommend it.

Bought one of these for my Mini Ruck to make it easier to keep my keys handy (they have a bad tendency to sink to the bottom of a pocket). A few months into using it now, and I'm very happy with it. I have not had the unscrewing problem that other reviewers mentioned, but I also made sure to screw it in really tight. The only very minor warning that I would give to future buyers is to think carefully about where you put it, as the screw head is far from flush. Since mine straddles an interior panel in a bag, the screw head can and will rub on whatever it's sharing the main compartment with. It's nothing extremely detrimental, but worth keeping in mind.

Great little add-on to bags without an internal zip pocket to store keys. I put one in my Metro & Rockhopper so I know exactly where my keys are and not hunting around when I get back to my car when I return from a trip. I use a Metro bag for any trip of a couple or 3 days so it's my go-to bag for business trips and gets the most use of my bags. (The Sky Train & Air Boss don't need one because of their internal zipper pocket.)
I did lose the screwpin on the Metro one recently as it appears pushing stuff in & out of the bag. A simple addition of some threadlock (blue in case you need to reposition it) should keep it from loosening up & coming off. Fortunately I had an extra one so I'll keep an eye on it to make sure it stays screwed in tight.

Great idea, design and execution. Has held up well with all my travel.

As far as I could tell from extensive research this is the only thing quite like it. I ordered 2 in the beginning as as soon as I installed them ordered 6 more!
I have them installed in different bags and have attached some Tom Bihn key straps to them. Now I have all my travel essentials like my wallet, and various ebag pouches tethered so I don't have to worry about leaving stuff behind on the plane.
I am a travel bag and accessory geek and would rank these as one of my favorite travel accessories!
I took a star away because of price. I feel that what is essentially plastic and a threaded metal pin should be priced a bit lower. Having bought 8 in all I did feel I overspent.

This is a great, little add-on item that should be in wider availability.
I purchased two. Installed one in my new, "Railroad Grip" and the other on a work belt.
Well made, easy to install and seems to be made from a "filled polymer" so I expect it will be durable.
Very handy for keys or any small items that tend to "disappear" on their own and can be attached with a clip device.

Got this when I ordered my Sky Train, but I planned to install it in my usual day pack (another brand) that I carry to and from work. Easy to install, and it holds my keys, but during the process of walking through my day it has come unscrewed a couple of times in my bag. Nothing lost as it is in an interior compartment, but I did get a poke from the pin. The last time I screwed it really tightly, and it hasn't come off again. I wouldn't install it on the outside of a bag and then clip anything as important as keys to it though!

I had a bag with a key clip built in. When I got my Gator, at first I used a used something I hoked up from a conference badge and a keychain to hold my keys. When it broke, it was time for the pin mount key clip.
The price is OK; the shipping for small stuff is punitive. Need a better plan on that, RedOxx.
The clip is a bit bulky and a bit confusing the way it needs to be folded back on itself. That raises the clip relative to the pin, but also makes it stick out.
I see that some people have taken it apart and turned the clip around, and I might try that.
Bottom line, there's nothing like it, its odd but strong and useful. Consider getting more than one.

This is a well made clip that works great for me attached to a tie down strap in the main compartment of the Sky Train. Handy for clipping on a travel wallet as well as keys or a small light. Should have bought two.

I like this product. I use it on my day pack I use for carrying things onto a airplane. Rather than zipping open the pack I hook keys and other small items onto it. It has proven to be very useful. Highly recommended.

Can put keyring anywhere; inside of a jacket pocket, outside of your grip, anywhere u can stab a pin through.
It is made of plastic, and didn't feel very sturdy in my hands, but Ive beaten it up pretty good so far and it's holding up.

Very useful gadget for my bags.

I used two of the the key mounts to hook up a hydration bladder to the C-Ruck and now I use it as a hunting day pack. I' m going to buy a few more. Very handy.

I purchased the clip as an afterthought when I placed an order for the CPA briefcase, figuring what the heck. I am glad I made the purchase.
I have the clip attached to my Rock-Hopper over the shoulder bag and now have a home for the keys that I previously had to dig for. The mouting is secure and well constructed.
Like the Red Oxx metal ID tags and wire locks, this is another item that proves to me that Red Oxx knows how to take care of a traveler's needs.

Good product. However, I didn't see this option until after I ordered my Air Boss. I ordered it a day later. Good news - Red Oxx service is great so the Air Boss had already shipped. Bad news - I ended up paying the same shipping for the clip and 4 zip knots as I did for the Air Boss.

Very handy product. I think it is a little bulky and I am not fond of poking hole in my luggage. If Red Oxx put some loops of webbing into the compartments of their luggage, they could make a smaller, more compact version that clipped onto the web loops and you would not have to pierce your luggage.

I bought two of these and have one in my Air Boss and another in my Metro laptop bag. They are easy to install and can be removed and reinstalled over again as your mood changes. By adding a small clip like this, you can hang keys or other small items inside your bag to keep them from getting lost down in the bottom and making it easier to grab them when needed.

A nice, reasonably-priced option...and not just for Red Oxx gear.
It's nice that you can position the clip as you see fit and where you want it.
I use them on the Gator but also on a Filson Briefcase Computer Bag, the slightly wider version of their "Original." Before the Key Clip I used biners on the straps.
The KeyClip is a heckuvva lot better choice//

This is a great idea. I put it into the outside pocket of my Sunchaser, clipped my keys there, and forgot about them until the trip home.
Secure, well constructed.
A Great Idea!

I bought several of these clips.
I like that they can be moved from bag to bag, and the screw mechanism seems secure.
Like the previous person who commented, I also unscrewed the clip and reversed the bit that holds the keys. Used the way the instructions said, the unit seemed a bit bulky. However, when the clip part was reversed, it fits in my bag just fine.
Frequently Asked Questions
Where do I put the key clip?
The flexibility of the Pin Mount Key Clip allows you to mount it (pin it) anywhere you like. Be aware that penetrating any of the webbing is quite difficult.
Will this void the warranty?
Cordura is designed to not tear or rip, even when cut. Punching a few holes in a bag with the Pin Mount will not void the warranty.
What is this thing and why not sew in a key clip?
The Pin Mount feature allows you to mount your Key Clip anywhere you like. If we mounted it inside the bag, folks would want it outside the bag, and so on. Flexibility is the key to its functionality.
How do I reverse the key clip?
Remove the pin mount, unscrew the two screws, open the clip and remove / reverse the hook. Screw it back together and remount the Pin Mount. Key Clip is now reversed.
The key clip came unscrewed in my bag? I nearly lost my keys. What do I do now?
Apply Loctite® Blue Threadlocker to the thread. This should prevent your Key Clip from coming unscrewed under normal use. Loctite® Red Threadlocker is the strongest thread locker available. However, you will need heat and tools to unlock the thread if you use the Red Threadlocker.
Can you ship USPS?
Yes, Red Oxx will ship USPS upon request. Simply state, "Please ship USPS" in the cart comments during checkout and we will adjust your billing accordingly.

Key Clip Mounting Instructions:
1. Grasp pin grip, turn left to unwind, remove pin grip from base mount. CAREFUL! Pin is quite sharp!
2. Position base mount where you want to mount your key clip. Screw pin through backside of material, then screw pin onto base mount. Flip base over so key loop hangs with opening pointing outwards. Tighten screw pin firmly in place on backside. If tab is above hook, push tab on loop hook sideways until it pops under the hook on the loop. Click "Additional Images" at left for clarification.
NOTE! Removing the pin will leave a puncture mark in Cordura. Red Oxx recommends screwing, not pushing, the pin through the fabric, if possible, between woven threads to minimize damage to the fabric.
For best results, mount the key clip to a mesh pocket, an interior flat pocket or interior webbing.
